National Pyjama Day is the largest one-day fundraising event organised by the early childhood care and education sector in Ireland. Now in its 15th year, the event has raised more than €2.75 million for charities that support children with additional needs.

On March 9th 2018 children and staff are sponsored to wear their pyjamas into the early years setting. Activities take place such as storytelling, pillow fights, nursery rhymes, and many more taking place in settings across the country to mark the day. National Pyjama Day celebrates children helping children and having fun. 2017 charity partners included Children in Hospital Ireland,, Down Syndrome Ireland, Irish Neonatal Health Alliance and National Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation and ASiAM.

The theme for 2018 is Innovative Projects for Children with Additional Needs – Indoors and Outdoors. The money you raise will support national Irish children’s charities to deliver social impact projects for children under 6 with additional needs.

In a busy pre-school setting children often like to retreat to a quiet space; to gather their thoughts, read a book or to rest for a while. For many children, this space is somewhere they go throughout the day, or it may be their ‘safe space’ within the room. What does this space look like in your room? Do you have a cosy corner or den? Do you make spaces like this with the children? Do the children make their own spaces? With Pyjama Day soon approaching, we are looking for examples from practice of restful spaces, so we can share inspiring and innovative practice.
